The peasants are revolting!

Previously published in the Davis County Clipper on Aug 16

My oh my, how people are mad about the skyrocketing property tax rate in Davis County. The picture that accompanied this article had a bunch of screaming elderly folk about to form a mob; it was great.

This line is particularly delicious: "Sherry Brophy of Layton told the commissioners that perhaps there were few younger taxpayers in attendance, because, 'they are either working overtime or second jobs to pay for their milk and taxes.'"

As is this: "One man who said his property taxes were rising at such a rate that perhaps the jail would be the only place he could afford to live..." and when he can't pay the oppressive piper, that's where he will live. (Never mind the superfluous 'who', your editor could use some proofreading lessons.)

And, Utah continues to be one of very few states that still taxes food. Food! More and more reasons to stay away from 'Zion'.
